Agatha Christie’s novels have not only inspired me to write mysteries, but her works have greatly influenced my love for the genre as a whole. There really isn’t enough praise that I can give to “The Queen of Mystery” except to reiterate her accomplishment that she is ‘the most widely published author of all time, outsold only by the Bible and Shakespeare. Her books have sold more than a billion copies in English and another billion in a hundred foreign languages’.
Thus, I am certain that many of you already share in my enthusiasm for Agatha Christie’s works. Nevertheless, I recommend any of her books to those who may not have had an opportunity to read them. Very seldom (and I am giving myself a bit more credit than truthfully due) have I actually guessed ‘who-dun-it’, and I’ve certainly never guessed how the crime was done. Oh how I love a good mystery. 🙂
Dame Christie’s books have been so successful, many movies and adaptations have been made based on them. Personally, I love the movies featuring her famous Belgian detective, Hercule Poirot. His character is played by David Suchet, and to say that Suchet does an extraordinary job is an understatement. Oddly enough, I have yet to delve into the movies featuring one of Christie’s other widely loved characters, Miss Jane Marple, but I intend to remedy that soon! Miss Marple is the little old lady of St. Mary Mead who has an exceptional understanding of human nature, and an even more astute eye to what goes on around her.
I love the books featuring both Hercule Poirot and Miss Marple, and I can definitely recommend Agatha Christie’s Poirot DVD’s. I’ve also heard wonderful reviews for Miss Marple DVD’s as well (especially the Miss Marple played by Joan Hickson).
As with any novel adapted to movie, I would always recommend reading the actual novels first. There is something wonderful about appreciating the author’s words and characters first hand. Even when you have read one of her mysteries, the movies are so well done they add to what you’ve read in both setting and characters.
I highly recommend an Agatha Christie mystery novel and movie. Enjoy!
NOTE:
For those who purchase Agatha Christie’s movies, I have recently discovered that they have come out with the Poirot DVD’s on Blu-Ray. So far they have released all of the shorter length episodes and the first nine movies that aired during the six series television program. This is a total of 45 mysteries. They do sell them in sets (series 1-6) OR you can purchase all of them in one 13 disc set entitled, “The Early Cases Collection”. Finally, there is one other movie set they’ve put onto blu-ray (It is from ‘The Movie Collection 6’). It includes Three Act Tragedy, The Clocks, and Halloween Party.
I hope you enjoy these books/ movies as much as I do! God bless!
Please Note: No compensation was provided for my recommendation of this book/ product. I purchase these books and/or products for myself because of my personal interests. I make recommendations based on what I have especially enjoyed and simply hope that they will also be a blessing to others.
Hi Ashley, I’m only catching up now. I clicked the email notification this time as I was only following along on the WP reader and missing your posts…
I loooooove Agatha Christie! I used to read her all the time in my teens. Hercule Poirot and Miss Marple were wonderful, too but I enjoyed all the other books as well.
I wish I still had my AC collection. Lost it all in my many moves. I’ll probably start hunting the bookstores again for her….
Blessings,
Mary
Thanks for taking the time to catch up and comment on my posts. 🙂 I share your love for AC! You know, now that you mention her other titles, I haven’t read any of her romance novels yet (the ones that she wrote under a pseudonym). I definitely intend to look for those in the future as well. I’m excited. 🙂
God bless,
Ashley
I love a good Agatha Christie book! I can never figure it out! I watched a Miss Marple movie a couple of weeks ago. Angela Lansbury played her. It was pretty good. I haven’t seen any others to compare it to, but I thought it was good. The Mirror Crack’d was the name of it. I got it from the library. I’ve got to get some more Agatha Christie books soon!
Hi Amy! I can never figure it out either! I’ve only watched Joan Hickson as Miss Marple so far, but I will check out some of the others soon. 🙂 I think I may make a trip to the library myself soon. 🙂 Thanks for commenting. God bless. -Ashley
Just an update… I’ve finally had an opportunity to watch the Miss Marple DVD’s [portrayed by Joan Hickson], and I love them as well! 🙂 As far as I know, however, they have yet to come out with the blu-ray versions. Nevertheless, I enjoyed them very much. 🙂
